International Development

Rockefeller Foundation. ActKnowledge has worked with the Rockefeller Foundation on a number of projects. They have included the preparation of a Theory of Change relating to advancing oceans health through support for small-scale fisheries in costal communities in developing countries. We have also worked closely with the Transforming Health Systems (THS) team in the Foundation to clarify goals in this multi-national program to advance access and equitable health outcomes through health systems reform. |

Oxfam Australia. ActKnowledge and Oxfam Australia developed a joint working paper on theories of change to support young people to make change happen. The work was undertaken as a strategic input into the planning and change process for the Oxfam International Youth Partnerships. It was supported by the Development Leadership Program. |

Alliance for Financial Inclusion. ActKnowledge undertook the external evaluation of the Alliance for Financial Inclusion (AFI), supported the articulation of its theory of change and developed a cost/benefit analysis of its operations based on its theory. AFI is a global network of financial policymakers from developing and emerging countries working together to increase access to appropriate financial services for the poor. AFI member institutions are central banks and other financial regulatory institutions from more than 80 developing countries. |

The Hunger Project. Developed a theory of change for the Project’s work in general and also developed theories of change for specific program countries: nine countries in Africa as well as India, Mexico and Bangladesh. ActKnowledge then developed a monitoring and evaluation system for the Project based on its theory of change. |

Canadian Feed the Children. ActKnowledge worked with Canadian Feed the Children on the development and articulation of a theory of change to support planning and evaluation of their work. The organization is a Canadian charity focused on reducing the impact of poverty on children. |

4C Association. ActKnowledge worked with the 4C Association to help articulate their theory of change for evaluation and planning purposes. The 4C Association is the platform that brings together stakeholders in the coffee sector to address sustainability issues in a pre-competitive manner. |
Education/Youth Development

Helmsley Charitable Trust. Evaluation and gathering of policy lessons from a demonstration project on a ‘place-based’ education reform initiative at multiple sites in New York City. The Helmsley Charitable Trust is a philanthropic organization based in New York City. |

Business Education Compact. ActKnowledge worked with BEC, a state-wide education reform initiative in Oregon, to develop a theory of change to support effective strategic planning and evaluation. |

Supporting Social Inclusion and Regeneration in Limerick SSIRL. ActKnowledge worked in partnership with Nexus Research on a theory of change designed to support the evaluation of this major community development initiative in Limerick, Ireland. SSIRL is a collaborative program to support long-term, strategic and systemic social inclusion within the Limerick Regeneration Process and across Limerick. |

The Advocacy Initiative. ActKnowledge worked with the Initiative in the development of its theory of change to guide its future advocacy work. The initiative is funded by the Atlantic Philanthropies. The Advocacy Initiative is a community and voluntary sector project that promotes understanding, awareness and effectiveness of social justice advocacy in Ireland. |

Brennan Center for Justice at NYU Law School. Empirical study which was undertaken to inform the framing of legislation designed to protect vulnerable, low income elderly tenants who do not have legal representation in housing court in New York City. |
Community Schools

Hartford Community School Initiative, Connecticut. ActKnowledge is conducting a multi-site, multi-year evaluation, beginning with the development of the initiative’s theory of change and evaluation capacity building for each community school site. |

Paterson School District, New Jersey. Paterson is the recipient of one of the few Full Service Community School Five Year federal grants. ActKnowledge is responsible for evaluation, which began with the development of the initiative’s theory of change and evaluation capacity building for each community school site. |

The Children’s Aid Society (CAS). CAS has been a client since 1999. We are currently evaluating the CAS 21st Century Community Learning Centers (CCLC) and the work of its National Center for Community Schools for the Kellogg Foundation. |

United Way. We work with local United Ways around the U.S. and Canada, including most recently: The United Way of the Greater Lehigh Valley, Pennsylvania; The United Way of Salt Lake, Utah; and The United Way of Toledo, Ohio, in developing theories of change for community school initiatives. |
Public Space

National Park Service. An ethnographic overview and assessment study for the Staten Island Unit of Gateway National Recreation Area. The results will inform management, policy and programming. |

Trust for Public Land. Led by Dr. Dana Taplin of ActKnowledge, this comprehensive evaluation report examined the impact of playground regeneration on schools and communities. It found a significant gender impact of playground improvement with marked increases in use by girls as a result of new design elements |
